A hill, a family, and time.
One hundred and thirty-nine years on the same south-facing slope above the Tanaro river.
We are farmers first.
The Ferrantes have never owned another vineyard. Everything we know about wine, we learned on this hill — which rows ripen first, where the fog lingers, which corner of the cellar the Riserva likes best.
Chiara studied oenology in Alba and spent three harvests in Burgundy before coming home; her brother Matteo runs the vineyards with a team of nine, most of whom have picked here for twenty years. Their father Paolo still tastes every barrel before it is bottled.

Milestones on the hill
Giuseppe Ferrante buys the Monte Calvo hill and plants four hectares of Nebbiolo.
The tufa cellar is dug by hand beneath the house — still 12°C all year.
Nonna Elvira bottles the first estate-labelled Riserva.
Organic farming begins; the last herbicide leaves the estate.
Chiara and Matteo take over and open the cellar door to visitors.
What the soil gives
Three soils, three personalities — we bottle them apart so you can taste the difference.
Blue marl
Compact calcareous clay on the upper slopes. Gives the Riserva its structure, tar and decades of life.
Sandstone
Looser, yellow sands mid-slope. Perfumed, earlier-drinking Langhe Nebbiolo and our Dolcetto.
Roero sands
Across the river, fine white sand for Arneis — saline, floral and quick to charm.
